With help from Mark and Matt at Max Muscle and a strong work ethic Monti hit the weight room. From 160 pounds after wrestling Monti gained 25 pounds by the end of summer. As the season went on opposing teams game planned and keyed on number 21. It didn’t matter. Monti rushed for 1722 yards with 25 touchdowns, 14 receptions for 149 yards and 1 touchdown. He accounted for 162 of the teams 426 points. What teams could not game plan for was his play from the free safety spot.
Along with his 3 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles Monti consistently showed everyone why he worked so hard in the off season with what we call WOW hits. As others say Monti Wilson is the best running back ever to play at Calaveras High School, I say he is bar none the best safety to play at our small school and will move on to the next level to help whatever college he chooses.
Some of Monti’s personal achievements for the 2010 season are Mother Lode League MVP, Lions Club All star selection and Union Democrat and Stockton Record all area teams. As a coach you can not ask for a better young man to have on your team. From his work ethic to his drive Monti Wilson set a very high stardard for a Calaveras High School football player.
And yes, Monti went to State again for wrestling in the 189 pound weight class.
